What is Acne?
Acne is a combination of dead skin cells and oil that clog pores and cause bacteria to grow. This can result in pimples and acne flare-ups on the face. Acne can also appear on the chest, back, or shoulders, known as truncal acne, and affects 50% of patients who have acne on their face.
Unfortunately, there is no single cause of acne. Instead, there are multiple internal and external factors that can contribute to the development of acne. These factors include things like puberty, pregnancy, skincare regimen, sunlight, increased stress, diet, and more.
Acne will NOT go away by itself! Acne is a medical condition that requires treatment to help reduce visible symptoms. Acne scarring can happen regardless of the severity of your acne which is why it is important to get treatment at the early stages.
Before we get to the treatment options, please remember, you should never pop your pimples! When you pop your pimples, the size of the acne may increase, more pimples may appear, and you may develop scars.
